CHALLENGE

Merck aimed to inspire a passion for science discovery in kindergarten children (3-6 years) by designing a memorable educational mascot. This mascot needed to serve not only as a captivating 'narrator' for scientific experiments but also as a symbol of Merck's commitment to fostering curiosity and learning in young minds. The challenge was to create a character that was both educational and engaging, encouraging children to explore the wonders of science while establishing a lasting connection with the Merck brand.

INSIGHT

Children are naturally curious and learn best through play and storytelling. By integrating a character that children could relate to and interact with, the educational experience could be transformed into an adventure of discovery. Recognising the importance of a mascot that could physically and emotionally connect with children, it was crucial that this character be approachable, relatable, and spark the imagination, making science fun and accessible.

SOLUTION

OobeQ, a soft, cuddly mascot designed in vibrant Merck brand colours and equipped with a magnifying glass, was born. Standing at an ideal size for young children to engage with, OobeQ was crafted to be eco-friendly, washable, and capable of sitting or standing freely, inviting participation in a 'circle of scientists.' Through interactive experiments and narrated stories, OobeQ became a guide on a journey of scientific discovery, encouraging children to see themselves as young scientists exploring the world around them. OobeQ's presence in classrooms and daycare centres not only made science accessible but also reinforced Merck's dedication to education and innovation, leaving a lasting impression of wonder and curiosity in young learners.
